Welcome back Year 5!
We hope you all had an enjoyable and happy summer and you are as ready and excited for the challenges of Year 5 as Mrs McVittie and I are! Our topic for this half term is Inventors and Inventions and we have many interesting activities and lessons for you to bring out your inner inventor! Take a look at our curriculum letter (attached) for more details. We will keep you updated with any additional information throughout the half term but please do not hesitate to come and see us if you have any worries or concerns. Thank you

Our topic this half term is Inventors and Inventions.
Class Novel: The Inventions of Hugo Cabret - By Brain Selznick
In Literacy, we are learning about:
• Creating complex sentences by using relative clauses (‘who’, and ‘where’)
• Creating complex sentences by using relative clauses (‘which’ and ‘whose’)
In numeracy, we are learning about:
• Mental and written division.
• 2D and 3D shape including sorting.
• Calculating with fractions
• Measures (area and volume)
• Statistics and measures
Our PE lessons this half term will take place on Monday and Friday afternoons
so please ensure your child has their PE in school each week. It is essential they have a full kit to take part in the lessons each week.
Please make sure your child has removed earrings on these days and any long hair is tied up! Thank you.
