    GIRLS' FOOTBALL

    20 April 2018 (by admin)

On Thursday afternoon, 13th April, our Girls’ Football team took part in a tournament at Southlands High School.

Our first match was against Coppull Parish, both teams settled down and Elizabeth opened our scoring for a half time score of 1 – 0. In the second half Cori scored twice, Macie once and Casey blasted a penalty into the top right-hand corner of the goal, with such force that the net could have broken. This made the match 5 – 0 to All Saints’. Duke Street then played Coppull Parish and won the match 4 – 0. So, the tournament would be decided by the match, Duke Street against All Saints’. Both sides played very hard and fought for every ball. A Duke Street player rocketed the ball towards Elizabeth’s face, forcing her to block the ball with her hand and the referee awarded a penalty. Our goalie, Ellie, got to the ball, but it crossed the line – making Duke Street 1 – 0 up at half time. The second half started and the game ticked away and it began to look as if we would be able to score. Then Cori got the ball at her feet, ran at goal and hit the ball hard and low to equalise. Full time ended as a 1 – 1 draw, so extra time was played four minutes. It was very tense because basically whoever scored next would probably win. Once again, the ball was put through to Cori, who again ran towards goal and won the tournament for us with a fine goal. Team: Ellie Y4, Amelia H Y6, Cori B Y5, Naomi K Y6 , Macie T Y5, Casey P Y6, Elizabeth G Y6, Madison W Y6 Player of the Match: It is customary to pick a player of the match and in this case that has been very difficult. Every player did exactly what was required of them and each of them did something that was crucial in both matches. Each player thoroughly deserved their gold medal, and in all senses, this was a brilliant team performance and it is only fair that the award should be shared equally among all our players.
