Modern Foreign Language (MFL)
At All Saints' we believe Learning a foreign language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures. A high-quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. Our teaching enables the pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. It should also provide opportunities for them to communicate for practical purposes, learn new ways of thinking and read great literature in the original language. Language teaching should provide the foundation for learning further languages, equipping pupils to study and work in other countries.

As we have recently changed the Modern Foreign Language that we teach at All Saints' from French to Spanish, our Long Term Plan will be updated annually. This year in Key Stage Two we are all concentrating on the same skills but have chosen appropriate topics to match our classes and their learning.
MFL Subject Leader & Pupil Ambassador
Joel will work alongside Mrs Loftus, who is the Spanish subject leader, in things such as learning walks, lesson observations and pupil interviews. This will help to develop Joel own leadership skills and develop our next steps in Spanish. By working together with the pupils we aim to improve our knowledge, understanding and love of Spanish and MFL.

Encouraging Spanish At Home
Learning a language is a wonderful way for children to develop their communication skills, confidence and understanding of other cultures. There are lots of simple and enjoyable ways to encourage Spanish at home, even if you don’t speak Spanish yourself! Try practising everyday vocabulary together, such as numbers, colours, days of the week, food and family members, or challenge your child to teach you some of the Spanish they have been learning in school. Listening to Spanish songs, watching age-appropriate Spanish videos and using language-learning games and apps can also make learning fun. Most importantly, encourage children to have a go, celebrate their efforts and remind them that making mistakes is a natural and important part of learning a new language.
