Label your setting with words and phrases from the text.

ART

ABSTRACT ART - Kandinsky

Today we are going to continue our learning on Abstract Art and looking at Wassily Kandinsky.

Last week we learnt that Kandinsky’s art was inspired by music.  His favourite was jazz music.  He listened to help decide what colours and shapes to use.  I was really impressed with the super artwork you produced.

ACTIVITY

Today you are going to create a tree in the style of Kandinsky. Click here for an example.

  • Draw a tree outline then colour it in.
  • Colour the sky and the grass.
  • Create the leaves/flowers by cutting out different size circles and in different colours. You can use paper that you might have at home or the Kandinsky sheet of circles - click here for circles.

SCIENCE

EARTH and SPACE

Today we are going to discover the difference between day and night.

ACTIVITY

Click the link below to watch the video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtRzy2TJAOQ&safe=active

ACTIVITY

You will need:

One torch (see if you can use a mobile phone with a torch)

One sphere shaped object such as an orange, a football or an apple

Slowly spin your object (or get an adult to help you) and shine your torch at the object.

The sphere object represents the Earth spinning on its axes and the torch represents the sun.

Notice that the torch can only light up one side of the object as it spins, this is how the world has a day and a night. One side of the world is dark and the other side of the world is light which is how we have day and night.

ACTIVITY

Why do we have night and day?

Complete the activity - click here.

Any problems please message me on Seesaw.

Have a great day.

Take care.

Keep smiling.

*******************************************************************************************Hi year 5

I hope you are all well and had a lovely weekend.  Can start by saying how super proud I am of all of you with your standard of work last week and commitment to learning.  I loved reading your work and can't wait to see what you produce this week.  You made me laugh and smile with your messages; thank you it was lovely to hear from you.

This week we are going to continue with the topic Earthlings and there are lots of exciting lessons planned for you.

I have uploaded activities for the week on here and will put the work on Seesaw daily.  Each day there will be a literacy, numeracy and topic activity for you to complete.  There are also some fun challenges for you to have a go at over the next few weeks - reading challenge, PE challenge and a health awareness challenge (I have attached them at the end).

On Seesaw the children can write or type their answers on the screen, saving on printing then send to me.  You can also complete your work in your red home learning book you have at home.  There will also be learning packs available from the school office.

Don't forget to go on Purple Mash and complete the activities I have set for you.

I am really looking forward to receiving your work, photographs and video's.

Have a great week.

Take care.

Stay safe.

Keep smiling.

Love Mrs Marsden x

Explore what is in our Solar System, the famous ‘Space Race’ and the thrilling, true survival space story – Apollo 13.

When following links online, parents should monitor that children are remaining on that page only and are keeping safe online.

**    Find out about the Solar System by reading these two sources – making notes as you read about each planet:

Planetarium Junior Edition by Raman Prinja:

https://www.lovereading4kids.co.uk/book/16329/Planetarium-Junior-Edition-by-Raman-Prinja.html

National Geographic Kids – The Solar System:

https://www.natgeokids.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/The-Solar-System-Primary-Resource.pdf

**    Now enjoy this rap on YouTube about the Solar System, ‘Outer Space: “We are the Planets,” The Solar System Song by StoryBots – Netflix Jr’ here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHAqT4hXnMw

**    Based on what you have read and watched, create your own rap, song or poem about the Solar System.

You may create your rap, song or poem in different ways, such as:

  • Use the rap you listened to on YouTube as a starting point and edit some of the lyrics/ add to the existing lyrics to create your own version.
  • Choose one part of the Solar System to create your rap/song or poem about e.g. your favourite planet.
  • Choose your favourite type of poem such as a limerick, haiku or acrostic and use this to write about the Solar System.

**    Make sure you keep practising your rap, song or poem by reading it aloud and editing as you write.

**    Once you have finished, have a go at performing it to someone in your house.  You could also record it and send it to me.

**    If you are feeling really creative, why not make a music video to support your performance too!

This week in numeracy we will be learning about multiplication.

NUMERACY

Multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000.

**    Play the game.

You need to decide who is going to be Player 1 and Player 2.

You then both need to select your colour (counters).

Player 1 will role the dice. You must then write this number into your home learning book and decide if you are going to multiply it by 10 or 100.
E.g: 30 x 10 = 300     or     30 x 100 = 3000

If this answer is free on your game board you may place a counter over the top of it or cover it.
Player 2 then repeats this process.

 Points!

  • Orange – 30 points.
  • Blue – 20 points.
  • Red – 10 points.
  • Green – 5 points.

**    Complete the multiplication by 10, 100 and 1000 sheet - click here.

Open your story with your character hearing the news that Britain is at war. Where are they and who are they with? How do they feel? How do others in the family feel?

  1. Evacuation
Your next section could be your character hearing the news that they are to be evacuated, packing their belongings and waving goodbye to their family.
  2. Arriving in the countryside

Week 3 Commencing Monday 4th May 2020

Hi everyone. I am so excited about this week’s theme as I know you all enjoy Roald Dahl and this is all based around Danny the Champion of the world. I

already excited to see what you can produce.  The maths will follow a similar pattern with watching a short instructional video and then completing the activities all about multiplication and division. Some of these methods will be new to you on the videos but try them and if you are finding them tricky use methods you know well like the grid method and chunking. We will also be continuing to learn about Ancient Greece and life cycles for science.

Don’t forget to send us your pictures of your wonderful work.

Keep up the hard work Y5 – I am, as always, very very proud of you! Mrs Stammers xx

WEEK COMMENCING 20.4.20

I hope you are all well and have had a great time over the Easter Holidays. The Literacy Team that we work closely with have designed a series of daily Literacy tasks for you to complete. I will be putting them on here everyday so you can check and use the information to create some quality English work. The daily tasks follow a weekly theme and this week it is all about Ancient Greece and Greek Myths.

I will also be adding Maths links daily that will give you an online lesson and a task to complete.

Following the Literacy and the Maths I have given you other topic work to complete either via here or on Purple Mash. These tasks will be set weekly and some of them are ongoing for the foreseeable future.

I would love it after you have completed any of the tasks each day for you to send me a picture either via Facebook or Seesaw. From this work we will be choosing star piece of work each day and also every Friday - Pupil of the Week will be chosen from those children who are trying hard with their home learning. This does not have to be something I have set as long as you have sent evidence of what you have been up to!

Year 5 Literacy Task

Focus theme: Ancient Greece.

This week, the children will explore Greek Gods, Greek myths and Greek monsters leading up to writing their own monster vs. hero fight scene.

For further stretch, children may be encouraged to blend action, dialogue and description within and across their paragraphs.

Literacy Day 5  24.4.20

We have come to end of our topic on Ancient Greece so now it is time to put everything you have found out into practise!! I hope you have enjoyed this topic. I can tell you now next weeks is very exciting!!!

Extended write:

Using all you have read / watched throughout the week, create a fight scene/chapter between a hero (this may be you!) and the Greek creature you created yesterday.

Try to include some ‘ing opener’ sentences and interesting words/phrases which you have collected throughout the week.

Once you have written this, you may want to read it aloud to a family member or even record the reading to send to your teacher!

If you loved this week, why not try some of these additional activities?

Numeracy Day 5

You have using TTRockstars all week to practise your timetable. Now test yourself with these challenges:

Tables Challenge

An extra game for you to play to end the week.

Look here for images to help you.

Draw a picture of your Greek monster and label its features. If you need some help with the layout, have a look at the ‘Monsterology’ extract here:
